Teeth bonding is a process where a dentist uses a tooth-colored resin material to “bond” to the patient’s tooth to restore or improve their smile.
-
The material is applied by your dentist and is hardened with a special light, which ultimately "bonds" the material to the tooth.
-
Teeth bonding is done to repair decayed teeth, to repair chipped or cracked teeth, to improve the appearance of discolored teeth, to close gaps between teeth, to elongate teeth, to change the shape of teeth and more.
-
Teeth bonding takes about 30 to 60 minutes per tooth to complete.
-
Typically, bonding material lasts from three years up to about 10 years before needing to be touched up or replaced.
That being said, this depends on your daily habits. If you tend to bite down hard, or use your teeth as tools you may break the bonding material off the teeth.
Additionally if you smoke or drink a lot of dark beverages that are known to stain teeth, such as coffee or red wine, your bonding material will stain more quickly and need replacement sooner.
